Ted joined Ponteland Repertory Society over 35 years ago, mainly to help out a friend, Anne Havis, with her production of Pirates of
Penzance. He was given the part of Samuel although on the opening night received a phone call from the Musical Director asking if he could sing the part of Frederick as the Rep member taking that part had lost his singing voice but could manage the libretto. Ted could and did sing all of Frederick’s songs for the rest of the week because of course, as we all know, the show must go on.
Ted and his wife Lynne took part in many other productions, Annie, Oliver, Oklahoma, Hello Dolly, Wizard of Oz, Oh What a Lovely War to name but a few. He served the Rep as a Committee member for a long time and finally as Chairman for three years, working tirelessly to promote the Rep’s standing and reputation. He enjoyed his time with the Rep enormously, ending up as a Life Member. Those of you who heard Ted sing will remember his beautiful tenor voice now, sadly, silenced.
Rest in peace Ted.
